About Me

Hello! My name is Lexi Mathis.
Thank you for visiting my page!

I was born and raised in South Carolina, and since then have moved to Texas, and more recently jumped into the desert embrace of Nevada.

My work explores and embraces the uncomfortable in human nature. I love using the human figure as a way to poke and prod at what it is that physically classifies us as a functioning human beings. I explore themes of mortality and existentialism through the human figure and use its anatomy as a common language to communicate these themes through my work.

I create my pieces using intimate mark making methods by drawing with line and cross-hatching. I also enjoy painting and scrapbook-like cut and paste methods using 2D media I find abandoned or from my own recycling. Using these hands-on methods to explore my own psyche, I express an unabashed perspective on the human body while making an encompassing critique on society’s predispositions toward beauty and the offensive.
